I have been active in Kung Fu for over seven years, I love being able to contribute new skills to students that can help them progress in both Kung Fu and life skills. I find this part of teaching very rewarding, it encourages me to progress in my own Kung Fu journey enabling me to constantly be the best I can be in my teaching.
Confidence!! This was a major factor to why I started my Kung Fu journey. I struggled with this from a young age, Kung Fu soon gave me confidence to be myself and helped me cope with new situations. When I started Kung Fu at 10 I never would have thought I would have the confidence to be up at the front of the class teaching but four years later that is exactly where I was and still am after seven years, loving every minute of it. As time went on I stayed with my Kung Fu journey as I found I was always welcome and listened to. I love the fact that I can help students like me to gain confidence as well as learn amazing skills in self-defence.
When I joined the team to teach they were amazing and have continued to encourage me with my journey and to be the best I can be. I find that in some ways being an instructor is different from being a student however in other aspects it is the same. I can relate to how the students are feeling as I still experience some of the issues they are facing, learning new skills can be very unnerving and worrying and I am constantly learning new skills both in Kung Fu and life. As an instructor I find this is something I strive to assist my students in overcoming by making learning fun and pressure free, hopefully enabling them to enjoy learning new skills.
